The almond tree is one of the main nut crops grown in Portugal, with an area of 24676 ha, which represents 34% of the dry fruits area. Low crop yields (363 kg / ha (INE, 2012)) are associated with a deficient installation of many traditional orchards, grown under rainfed conditions, on marginal soils, and, frequently, with inadequate production techniques. This project aims at the implementation and evaluation of integrated strategies for increasing the productivity of almond trees. The technologies will be integrated in the following lines of action:
-Rootstocks, varieties and training systems;
-Soil management and fertilization;
-Deficit irrigation;
-Frost protection.
