ChemPor-2023 was organized for the first time by a polytechnic institution

The 14th edition of the International Chemical and Biological Engineering Conference (ChemPor-2023) occurred at Braganca Polytechnic University (Instituto Politécnico de Braganca, IPB), September 12-15, 2023. This triennial conference gathers experts from chemical and biological engineering and related areas, focusing on topics from green chemistry to engineering education. The conference accounted for 11 invited lectures from internationally recognized scientists and experts from the industry, 107 oral presentations, and 135 posters.The 14th edition included an opening lecture by Jorge Calado devoted to ArtScience, and an Honor Session dedicated to Alírio Rodrigues for his academic and scientific contributions, particularly regarding IPB. The best poster awards were attributed to João Leitão (CERENA-IST) and Bojan Kopilovic (CICECO-UA), and the best oral communication to Joana Martins (LSRE LCM-FEUP). The 3rd 'Professor Almiro e Castro' award, sponsored by PARALAB, was attributed to Mara Freire from CICECO-UA.

ChemPor conference, for the first time organized by a polytechnic and inland institution, accounted with circa 300 delegates from 4 continents.The institutional support of Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, Ordem dos Engenheiros, Centro de Investigação de Montanha, Sociedade Portuguesa de Química, Camara Municipal de Bragança, and all sponsors is greatly acknowledged. The next ChemPor edition will be organized by the University of Coimbra in 2026.
