The reduction of grazing by herbivores and the abandonment of traditional land uses in recent decades are causing the homogenization of the landscape and a decline in the biodiversity of their habitats, while producing a high accumulation of vegetable fuel, which implies an increase in the risk of forest fires
The objective of OPEN2PRESERVE is to provide sustainable forest management models that contribute to minimize the risk of forest fires, as well as guarantee the preservation of ecosystem services and the ecological quality of open mountain areas of high environmental value susceptible to threats. In addition, the Open2Preserve project seeks to define new strategies to offer innovative solutions that ensure the economic sustainability and long-term viability of the management model, promoting the creation of new jobs and the sustainable development of the region.
