The Coordinator Council of the National Mountain Research Network (Rede Nacional de Investigação de Montanha - RNIM) met for the first time last Friday, November 3. This meeting marks the beginning of the establishment and expansion of the Network and its contribution to the development of mountain research in Portugal where nearly 40% of the country's area is mountains. The RNIM was created in April of 2017 through a Government Order (Despacho n.º 3434/2017) signed by 7 Ministers. This is the first governmental initiative specifically directed to mountain areas in Portugal. Isabel Ferreira was designated by FCT as RNIM Coordinator.
